Bend, Shape, and Shine Intro to Neon (18 hours) Instructor Stephanie Lifshutz
Learn to create your very own neon sign or sculpture from start to finish in this 3-session workshop. The course will guide you through a series of tutorials covering glass bending, design techniques, wiring, and installation. You'll also see a demonstration of how glass tubes are processed and filled with gas to create light. This class is perfect for beginners, as well as returning students looking for a review or a guided work session. Monday 15th - Wednesday 17th, September 3 Day Session 9:00am-4:00pm What to Expect:
This class includes the bombardment and electrode attachment for one neon unit, as well as a transformer and wiring kit. If you wish to create additional units, there will be extra charges for electrode attachment and pumping. Neon work involves standing activities like bending and assembling neon tubes over a torch flame, so a certain level of dexterity is required when working with glass materials. Eligibility:
No prior experience is necessary. Open to ages 18 and up. Pick-Up:
Neon tubes will be bombarded during the class, so you should leave with your finished neon unit. If processing takes longer, you will be notified when your work is ready to be picked up at Var Gallery. This is an in-person class held at Var Gallery & Studios. Register Early:
We recommend signing up as early as possible to guarantee your spot. Early registration helps us plan for materials and instructors based on student enrollment. It also ensures the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be canceled within two weeks of the start date. For questions or to set up a payment plan, feel free to contact us at info@vargallery.com. Preparing for Class
We recommend students bring a notebook and a water bottle to in-person classes. All essential materials and supplies for the class will be provided. If you wish to use specific tools or materials not supplied, you’ll need to bring them yourself. Studio Attire
For your safety, protective eyewear must be worn at all times in the Neon Studio. We’ll provide the appropriate eyewear for you. Please wear suitable work attire—flammable or synthetic fabrics, sandals, and open-toed shoes are not allowed. Long hair must be tied back for safety.
